Millions of international tourists visit Nepal each year to experience its mountains, rich culture, and centuries-old traditions. At the same time, many of Nepal’s young people are leaving the country in search of economic opportunity abroad.

Addressing this paradox is the focus of Revive Nepal.

We believe Nepal has extraordinary potential for sustainable economic growth.  Realizing that potential will require stronger coordination between the public, private, academic, and nonprofit sectors to help turn opportunity into lasting prosperity.

Our Approach

Revive Nepal is organized around three complementary initiatives. Together, they create a pathway from understanding Nepal’s challenges to building partnerships and supporting practical solutions.

Research Initiative

Nepal has no shortage of research. Universities, government agencies, development organizations, and international institutions have produced valuable studies across nearly every sector of the economy. What is often missing is a coordinated effort to bring this knowledge together and translate findings into practical action.

Our initiative begins by synthesizing existing research to develop a more complete understanding of the country’s opportunities and challenges. We then complement that work with original field research, and local economic analysis to better understand issues that remain under explored or have evolved over time.

Our findings are published openly to support informed decision-making and provide the foundation for the Investment Forum and Implementation Lab.

Investment Forum

The Investment Forum is a platform designed to bring together the people shaping Nepal’s future. It creates a place where leaders from government, business, academia, civil society, and the investment community can work through the country’s most important economic challenges together.

The objective is not simply to attract investment. It is to strengthen coordination, develop new partnerships, and identify opportunities where collaboration can produce lasting economic value.

Implementation Lab

The Implementation Lab exists to help Nepali entrepreneurs and business leaders build.

Entrepreneurs and startups with promising ideas can receive practical support as they craft concepts into new businesses and community initiatives. The Lab also works with employers, educational institutions, and local organizations to strengthen workforce development and expand access to meaningful employment.

It is intended to help transform promising ideas into sustainable enterprises and community initiatives that create lasting economic value throughout Nepal.

Project Director Bio

Joshua Willig is the founder of Revive Nepal. Earlier in his career he served as a Senior Vice President at GE Capital, where he advised middle-market companies and universities on financing strategies and sustainable infrastructure investment.

After leaving corporate America, his work shifted toward entrepreneurship and economic development. He went on to build a consumer products business serving professional workforces across India while also leading environmental infrastructure initiatives in the Himalayas.

Years spent living and working in India and Nepal gave him a firsthand understanding of the region’s opportunities and challenges. Those experiences ultimately led to the creation of Revive Nepal.

He now works with partners across Nepal to strengthen institutions and expand economic opportunity.
